Fuel Efficiencies | Sustain

If you live in the United States, it’s a very real possibility that your primary method of transportation is driving a car. From saving money to protecting the environment, here’s how you can get the most fuel efficiency out of your daily drive.
If your check engine light comes on, take it to a mechanic or even an Auto Parts store. Get it diagnosed, so you’re not suddenly stuck with a clunker.
Keeping your tires properly inflated increases your gas mileage by 0.6%. Changing your Motor Oil to the manufacturer’s recommended grade saves an average of 1%-2% gas mileage. Replacing a clogged air filter doesn’t directly improve fuel economy but will significantly enhance acceleration, allowing you to save gas over time.
Are you in the market for a new car? Purchasing an electric or hybrid vehicle offers considerable savings in fuel economy. Whether you lease or buy, you might also qualify for a rebate or federal tax credit.
Simple habits while driving can help you minimize pollution. Some new practices to be more sustainable while driving includes avoiding breaking or accelerating too quickly, parking in the shade so your car does not overheat, and using air conditioning only when necessary.
Carpooling, walking, and planning your trips ahead of time can help you reduce your time in the car. Plan your travels, and if you have a buddy to carpool with, take advantage of the opportunities to help you reduce the amount of time on the road.
