American Public Television (APT) revealed the winners of CreateCooking Challenge: My Family's Recipe over the summer and WEDU PBS was proud to acknowledge one of our very own viewers, Dennis Perez, as the second-prize winner.
Dennis Perez was selected for his digital short-form video, Cuban Picadillo, which is a traditional family recipe. As the second prize winner, Perez received a $1,000 cash prize and production equipment valued at $1,000 to produce a web series for CreateTV.com.
His winning Create Challenge video entry, Cuban Picadillo, received high praise from the judges. Chef Diane Kochilas said she found Dennis to be "very engaging" and learned something from his stories. Chef Nick Stellino was eager to see Dennis host a series. Culinary TV hosts Pati Jinich and Kevin Belton praised his work by holding viewers' attention with interesting camera shots and providing tips for substitutions in his recipe.
Perez selected three favorite family recipes to premiere in his series. His new series will feature Pasteles de Guayaba y Queso (breakfast pastry), Pollo a la Plancha (chicken dinner with flair), and Flan (dessert recipe). Perez will walk viewers through each recipe and share a personal note about why each is special.
The first episode of Perez's three-part series will stream on CreateTV.com starting Monday, November 21st at noon, ET. You can find more of Dennis Perez's work on his YouTube Channel, Black Tie Kitchen.
