Ron is Spreading Wildlife Education with ZooTampa

Meet Ron Rau, a volunteer at ZooTampa at Lowry Park. Ron works as an educator for manatees and has a fierce passion for giving back.

Ron began volunteering at the Memphis Zoo 20 years ago, and since then, he has given back by spreading wildlife education. "It makes me feel great, with the emphasis on the planet, the animals, and what we are all going through," Ron said. "If there is anything I can do to change that, and let people know, with just a small footprint they make can make a world of difference."

Part of Ron's volunteering is manatee education. He answers visitors' questions about the animals and educates many children visiting Zoo Tampa on field trips. "It makes me feel great. Talking to children gives me the most satisfaction, knowing I might make a difference in their lives."

Through volunteering, Ron strives to spread positivity and instill hope in the community. He wants to bring a little light to the darkness. Ron is an excellent example of someone trying to take the opportunity to make a brighter and better tomorrow.

"When we are talking about animals and the planet, it makes me feel good because it is what my legacy will be and what I will leave behind. I hope I leave this place better than when I came." Thanks to people like Ron, manatees have a voice, and Tampa Bay shines a little brighter.
