Accounting Manager
Job Summary
The Accounting Manager is a hands-on leader responsible for managing the organization’s daily accounting functions while ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with applicable standards and policies. Operating in a lean team environment, this role performs key accounting activities directly—including reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close—while supervising and supporting accounting staff. The Accounting Manager also partners with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and providing strategic financial insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations including general ledger, AP, AR, and payroll support
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff through training and feedback
- Lead the month-end and year-end close process for accurate financial statements
- Prepare monthly financial reports, variance analyses, and management packages
- Monitor revenue and expense activity against budget to identify key variances
- Manage bank and balance sheet reconciliations and cash flow reporting
- Coordinate with external auditors for annual audit preparation
- Support budget development, forecasting, and financial planning processes
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and all organizational reporting requirements
- Assist with tax filings, regulatory reporting, and year-end documentation
- Collaborate with department managers on expense reviews and budget monitoring
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiency
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Experience: Minimum of seven years progressively responsible accounting experience.
- Hands-on involvement in AR, AP, GL, payroll, and budgeting
- Experience with financial statement preparation and review
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with accounting software / ERP systems
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics and Grant accounting preferred
- CPA and Non-Profit experience preferred
- Excellent analytical, communication, and people leadership skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a lean, fast-paced environment
