Can We Talk? A Conversation About Antisemitism

Hosted by award-winning PBS journalist Ray Suarez, Can We Talk? A Conversation About Antisemitism will amplify voices from across the spectrum on antisemitism and the alarming rise of hate incidents in our own backyard. Featuring ordinary citizens, Rabbis, law enforcement, students and community leaders, Can We Talk shines a spotlight on the unique challenges faced by the Jewish community today.

We’ll cover stories from a synagogue’s preschool defaced with antisemitic slurs, to unprecedented security measures being taken to keep our neighbors safe, to the rise of next-gen hatred exploding on college campuses. Incorporating compelling video stories and substantive panel discussions by experts in the field, this program will help foster awareness and broker conversation on how our communities can work together to eradicate hate.

Statement from The University of South Florida

The University of South Florida is a diverse community that expects respectful and fair treatment of everyone. USF strives to provide an environment for students, faculty and staff that is free from discrimination and harassment on any basis, including religious beliefs.  USF rejects bullying, violence and prejudice, as these behaviors do not reflect our Principles of Community. As part of USF’s commitment to being welcoming and inclusive, university leaders will continue to keep an open dialogue with members of our community.

Public universities are founded on the idea that campuses should be a setting where differing views can be shared in a civil and respectful manner and where complex, divisive issues are addressed with critical thinking and rigorous, academic inquiry.  At the same time, we recognize that individuals are free to choose how they wish to lawfully exercise their right of free expression.

Anyone who feels they have experienced antisemitism is strongly encouraged to contact the Dean of Students Office or the Diversity and Inclusion Office, in order for the matter to be appropriately reviewed and responded to through the university’s established processes.
