WEDU Be More Awards™
Fifth Annual Ceremony Celebrating Nonprofit Organizations

The WEDU Be More Awards™ have become more than “the Academy® Awards for Nonprofits” (Ernest Hooper, St. Petersburg Times); they serve as an inspiration to everyone in attendance at the nationally-recognized, award-winning luncheon event that honors and celebrates the annual accomplishments of west central Florida nonprofit organizations and their unsung heroes. While it’s the nonprofits who share their stories of good work; everyone in the audience shares in the nail-biting anticipation of the celebration. No one leaves the event without having been dramatically moved and refreshed with a sense of wanting to be more in the New Year.

WEDU Sojourn™

A La Carte Event Pavilion, Tampa
Sojourn™, an internationally-themed, award-winning wine-paired dinner gala, celebrates the wine, cuisine and culture of a different wine-producing region of the world each year. This fifth annual ‘journey’, and WEDU’s most important fundraising event of the year, will begin with a reception featuring the art, dance and music of Italia, complemented with sumptuous gourmet morsels and wine tasting. A sit down, wine-paired gourmet dinner with some of the best wines Italy produces follows. During dinner, guests can bid on lavish vacation getaways and collectibles during an exciting live auction, followed by fine desserts and dancing to the pulsating rhythms of live main stage entertainment. A winner of numerous awards, Sojourn™ has also been recognized by the media as the “party of the year” and the Best Black-Tie Fundraiser in west central Florida, and is heralded as being the “ultimate party for the ultimate people” (Tampa Bay Magazine, June 2009).
Sojourn™ is definitely a trip worth taking.

Mystery & History – Tampa Bay Style
Meet The History Detectives
Thursday, June 17, 2010 - 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Tampa Bay History Center, Tampa
The new, state-of-the-art Tampa Bay History Center will be the location for a special appearance by Gwendolyn Wright and Tukufu Zuberi – two of the hosts of The History Detectives – a PBS audience favorite, critical success and an armchair historian’s “must see” summer series. With a behind-the-scenes overview of the series and the theme of “Mystery & History – Tampa Bay Style” ¬– this event will not only bring the history center’s authentic historic exhibitions “to life,” but will also capture the imagination of local sleuths with back stories on an object found in someone’s backyard or basement that turn’s out to be anything but ordinary.
