WEDU Receives Grant for Emmy-Winning Series


Tampa, FL — Exploring Florida’s west central coast for eclectic stories about the area’s arts, people and places, WEDU’s local monthly series, A Gulf Coast Journal with Jack Perkins, recently received a $125,000 grant from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation to support the ninth season with six new episodes beginning in January of 2012. “We are honored by the continued support from Gulf Coast Community Foundation,” said Susan Howarth, President and CEO of WEDU. “A Gulf Cost Journal with Jack Perkins is a treasure in the lives of our viewers. With this support, WEDU can continue to serve our community by providing a ninth season of this award‐winning series,” Howarth said. The recipient of numerous awards, and currently nominated for thirteen 2011 Suncoast Regional Emmy® Awards and a 2011 Griot Drum Award, new episodes of A Gulf Coast Journal with Jack Perkins can be seen on WEDU at 8 pm on the last Thursday of each month. The series, which has been exclusively supported by Gulf Coast Community Foundation since its inception, is also available to PBS stations throughout the country.
