Republicans and Democrats Stand United for Public Broadcasting
October 29, 2012 (Tampa, FL) — It’s not very often that you see Republicans and Democrats gathered together and united to support the same cause ‐ especially in a heated election year. However, on Wednesday, November 14th, Republican Political Consultant, Adam Goodman, and former Florida Chief Financial Officer and Democratic gubernatorial candidate, Alex Sink, will join forces to host “The One Night…That We’re All Together”‐ an event supporting an array of public affairs programming on WEDU, west central Florida’s primary PBS station.
This unique bipartisan event will also help kick‐off the 20th anniversary of “Florida This Week,” one of WEDU’s signature public affairs programs, which airs weekly on Fridays at 8:30pm. “We are so fortunate in the Tampa Bay area to have insightful, locally produced public policy programs like ‘Florida This Week’ and ‘Suncoast Business Forum’ which provide informative and provocative commentary about the latest news in our area,” said event co‐host Alex Sink.
The guest list is a “Who’s Who” ensemble of Democrats, Republicans, and journalists that have appeared on WEDU’s public affairs programs over the past 20 years, including Will Weatherford, Rick Kriseman, Darryl Rouson, Rick Baker, Jeff Brandes, Bill McBride, Patrick Manteiga, Mike Deeson, Alison Morano, co‐hosts Alex Sink and Adam Goodman and many more.
The evening, which will serve as a fundraiser for WEDU’s local public affairs productions, will include two special tapings of Florida This Week with a live audience. The first will highlight post‐election insights and wrap‐up. The second episode will look forward and discuss what to expect from our newly elected officials. Both episodes taped during the event will air on WEDU Friday, November 16th.
“We want to do what we can to keep great news and public affairs programs alive and thriving on WEDU. Whether it’s national programs like PBS Newshour and Washington Week with Gwen Ifill and National Journal, or local programs like Suncoast Business Forum, Florida This Week, Up Close with Cathy Unruh and a variety of debates and town hall meetings, our community needs a place for thoughtful discourse about the issues, and that place is WEDU,” said Susan Howarth, WEDU President
“The One Night…That We Are All Together” will be held at the WEDU Berkman Family Broadcast Center at 1300 N. Boulevard, Tampa on Wednesday, November 14th beginning at 5:30pm. A limited number of tickets are still available for this exclusive event. More information can be found online at www.wedu.org/theonenight or by phone at 813‐254‐9338 ext. 2241.
