When you make a donation your vehicle is resold at an auto auction, and the proceeds go to WEDU.
What can I donate?
WEDU accepts cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles
and recreational vehicles. When you make an automobile donation your vehicle is
resold at auction and the proceeds of the sale go to WEDU. Most vehicles are accepted
except those that are heavily damaged or incomplete. The WEDU Car Donation program
accepts automobile donations in our entire 16 county viewing area.
Are car donations tax-deductible?
Yes, the amount received by WEDU
from the sale qualifies as a charitable deduction on your federal income tax return,
because WEDU is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

How do I estimate the value of my car, for my tax deduction?
As of January 1, 2005, the law
allows a deduction equal to the gross proceeds from the sale of your donated vehicle.
Vehicles for Charity, which administers WEDU's donation program, will notify you
of the amount when your vehicle is sold. Please consult your tax advisor for more
information.
How do
I claim my tax deduction?
You should include the sale proceeds of your vehicle, as provided to you by
Vehicles for Charity, as an itemized deduction on your tax return for the year in
which you make the donation. The instructions
for IRS Form 8283, "Noncash
Charitable Contributions" explain what to do if your non-cash donations, including
the vehicle, are worth more than $500 in a given year. Please consult your tax advisor
for more information.
