The Be More Awards have gone national!

Following the success of the first WEDU Be More Awards™ in 2006, PBS national headquarters, based in Washington, D.C., took notice of the success and awareness the program generated for WEDU as well as the benefits it afforded so many non-profit organizations in our community. Shortly thereafter, the creator of the WEDU Be More Awards™, Laura Turner, was asked to present the “Be More Awards” concept at the 2006 national PBS conference; and two national conferences in 2007.

The leadership of PBS was so impressed with the program that WEDU staff is now in development of a “how-to” guide to be distributed to PBS affiliate stations across the United States. Soon, PBS television stations from all over will be producing their very own Be More Awards in their communities – recognizing their local, and many times unsung – heroes. The first station to do so will be KAET in Phoenix, Arizona. The KAET Be More Awards will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at the Camelback Inn in Scottsdale, Arizona. It is with much gratitude to our supporters and appreciation of our community that WEDU moves forward into its 50th year of service and continues to lead the way in programming and special events that educate, entertain and inspire the west central Florida area. We offer a special thanks to the non-profit community as well as their supporters for serving as the catalyst for the Be More Awards; these organizations truly serve as the inspiration for this award-winning and now nationally-recognized awards program.
