Scientists working with the Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute are raising the curtain on a new day of hope for families touched by Alzheimer’s disease. In four years, seven new interventions have been developed, and the Institute has been recognized for its cutting-edge and innovative work by international leaders in the field.
Maintaining an active lifestyle including social contacts, stimulating mental activities, a heart-healthy diet and some exercise have all proved to be effective in reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
In the lab, animals that were provided a socially, visually, mentally, and physically stimulating environment were cured of the disease. Now staff are working to translate those discoveries into human’s treatments. We are getting closer every day.
And, until there is a cure, the Institute is working to ensure that caregivers have adequate supports and that every new understanding that can improve quality of life is moved from the research lab to the bedside as quickly as possible. Programs like And Thou Shalt Honor provide a forum for the community to gather and talk about the realities of caregiving, then build the kind of infrastructure that supports this great gift and often profound sacrifice.
This is the best time to support Alzheimer’s research at the Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute: we have the right people – veteran researchers and brilliant young people; in the right place – a state of the art facility on the USF campus; at the right time – on the graduation of the first baby boomers into retirement.
The Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute is a proud sponsor of WEDU and public television – it is health food for a healthy brain.
Sponsorship of local programming adds impact and prestige to any marketing mix by associating your company with one of the most respected brands in America -- PBS.
Our station is owned by the people of West Central Florida and exists through the direct financial support of the community with nearly 40,000 annual contributors. WEDU's signal and cable carriage reach more than one-fourth of Florida’s population and is watched by an estimated 700,000 households each week -- that's about 1.5 million viewers! We teach our viewers about history, science, nature and the arts with an emphasis on local programming. We entertain children while enriching their minds.
A recent PBS Image Study revealed that a strong majority of PBS viewers:
- Feel that companies that fund PBS have a commitment to quality and excellence.
- Believe corporate partners are usually industry leaders.
- Would choose to buy a product from a company that supports PBS, all other things being equal.
- Corporate leaders recognize that PBS program sponsorships are an effective communication tool that brings special acknowledgement and appreciation from customers and PBS viewers.
